For each job you look for, you have to customize your
resumes for it. Many employers are picky and they will choose applicants who
are the best match for the position they are offering. Name your resume files
based on the employer and make a backup of it. During interview, you might
bring a hard copy of the resume you've sent. The more specific writing you do
the chances are you will have one prepared or close to ready to fire off
whenever you want.
Changing the statements can occasionally be enough especially in your summary of skills section. The abilities that you need to prioritize are the ones that matched to the position. List your key competencies within this section or in the order of importance under each job in your work history section. Your primary abilities should be your top five to ten skills. These aren't your job specific ones such as your hardware technology repair certification or forensics accounting training. They are categorized as communication, team, organizational, attention to detail, customer services, sales, management skills et cetera.
You might have several titles and jobs. If so, it is suggested that you emphasize the position that is most relevant to the job you're applying on your resume. Even though you know the industry well you want to be current on what is going on. Be ready to discuss any new technology being utilized in your field and position. Examples of these technologies might be programs, communications, or the latest software. It will be of your benefit if you make yourself knowledgeable and enthusiastic about your field by discussing those subjects.

In a smaller company there is often no HR Department which means you can usually find out who the hiring decision maker is and send your resume to them. However, it's completely different in large organizations because you have to deal with many company personnel. They might include the department head or the position director.
